Electrical and Instrumentation Technician (E&I)


Summary The Electrical and Instrumentation Technician’s primary responsibility is the maintenance of plant process instrumentation and control systems. This includes: troubleshooting, repair, calibration, and preventive and predictive maintenance activities on pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, electronic, digital, analytical, distributed control, and programmable logic controller systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned

  • Performs all assignments safely, participates in creating a safe work environment within the work place by participating in safety training and supporting continuous improvement.
  • Performs routine inspection, maintenance, replacements, repairs and calibrations on all types of electrical, instrumentation and control equipment in the power plant and yard.
  • Installs, replaces and maintains a variety of devices such as breakers and motor controls up to and including 480 volts.
  • Installs pipe, tubing, conduit, compression fittings, cable and supports.
  • Performs all electrical work, installation, repair, and maintenance of plant equipment and transformers up to and including 480 volts.
  • Understands and utilizes a variety of equipment and tools in the performance of trouble shooting, repair and calibration of electrical, control and instrumentation devices.
  • Under normal conditions, performs own mechanical work in the performance of the E & I function.
  • Performs basic rigging and scaffolding activities.
  • Operates plant fixed and mobile crane/hoist equipment as qualified.
  • Performs brazing, soldering, cutting, and electric arc welding work.
  • Utilizes power hand and fixed shop tools in the performance of the work.
  • Reads and understands blueprints for the purpose of lay out and performance of work. Makes necessary sketches and drawing for communication to others and documentation.
  • Troubleshoots all electrical, control and instrumentation.
  • Utilizes equipment manuals or other materials for guidance in the performance of repairs, calibrations and installation of equipment.
  • Reports and documents abnormal conditions and records information in the equipment history files.
  • Maintains a clean work environment.
  • Performs regular maintenance technician duties on a regular basis.
  • Documents maintenance activities, maintaining EPA records and assists engineering.
  • Working beyond regular working hours as necessary.
  • Responding favorably to call outs at night or on weekends.

Requirements:
Associate Degree in Instrumentation field or junior status in a 4 year Instrumentation degree program preferred. Alternately, we will consider an Associate Degree in Electronics technology, or successful completion of a formal program in the field of Process Instrumentation through military service or a crafts apprenticeship program.

  • Must have the ability to learn and work effectively with the plant’s Distributed Control System (DCS). (Siemens PCS7 experience a plus)
  • Expertise and proficiency with basic office computer software, e.g., word processing, email, and spreadsheets.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lb.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and work at elevations up to 175 feet.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts.
  • The employee is regularly exposed to dusty conditions.
  • The employee is regularly exposed to high noise environments.
  • The employee is regularly exposed to outside weather in all conditions.
  • The employee will regularly be exposed to chemicals used in the process.
 
Maintenance Technician

Summary: The Maintenance Mechanic’s primary responsibility is to perform maintenance in an industrial processing plant which areas of knowledge include welding, millwright, electrical, air compressor, boiler operation and programmable logic systems. While assuring safe and efficient production by responding in a timely manner.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
  • Performs all assignments safely, participates in creating a safe work environment within the work place by participating in safety training and supporting continuous improvement.
  • Performs routine inspections, preventive/predictive maintenance, trouble shooting, repairs and replacements, on all pumps, valves/actuators, gear reducers, agitators, air compressors, boiler and controls such as pneumatic and electrical up to and including 480 volts.   
  • Install large diameter pipe, welding, cutting, fitting , threading, w/stainless experience desirable.
  • Understands and utilizes a variety of equipment and tools in the trouble shooting and repair of electrical, pneumatic control devices.
  • Performs basic rigging and scaffolding activities.
  • Operates plant fixed and mobile crane/hoist, fork truck equipment as qualified.
  • Performs TIG, MIG and electric arc welding, cutting, fitting and threading. Utilizes power hand and fixed shop tools in the performance of the work.
  • Reads and understands blueprints for the purpose of lay out and performance of work. Makes necessary sketches and drawing for communication to others and documentation.
  • Reports and documents abnormal conditions and records information in the equipment history files.
  • Maintains a clean work environment
  • Documents maintenance activities, maintaining EPA records and assists engineering.
Overtime requirements for this job include:
  • Working beyond regular working hours as necessary.
  • Responding favorably to call outs at night or on weekends.
Minimum Academic Requirements:
Education:
  • High school diploma required.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with post-secondary education and/or a technical trade certification (millwright, electrician, welder, pipefitter, etc.)
Pertinent and Proven Previous Experience:
  • Two years experience in maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment (pumps, valves, compressors, etc.).
  • Welding knowledge and experience on carbon / stainless steel is a plus.
Computer Skills:
  • Must have the ability to learn and work effectively with the plant’s Distributed Control System (DCS). (Siemens)
  • Expertise and proficiency with basic office computer software, e.g., word processing, email, and spreadsheets is an asset.

Process Operator


Summary: The Senior Operator is responsible rators
Responsible for the operation of the plant, working a 12-hour rotating shift schedule, to ensure maximum production quantity and quality, while supporting the policies, goals, and objectives of the company.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
 
Monitors and controls plant operations.
o Constantly reviews the operation of the plant to monitor production and quality, anticipating and solving problems in a timely manner, and identifying opportunities for improvement.
o Participates in projects that improve efficiency and/or reduce operating costs.
o Maintains adequate records of key production variables such as production volume, yield, plant uptime, utility consumption, etc., on a daily, weekly, and/or monthly basis, as required.
o  Participates in Quality Assurance program.
o Communicates directly with QA laboratory to ensure effective participation in the implementation of QA policies and procedures.
o Samples and tests process streams as required by the QA program and procedures.
o Maintains QA records.
o Understands and interprets QA results and takes appropriate action when required.
Participates in plant maintenance program.
o Communicates directly with the maintenance department to coordinate maintenance and repair work in process areas.
o Performs preventive maintenance activities as required.
o Assists maintenance technicians in performing maintenance and repairs.
o Assists with diagnosing and trouble-shooting maintenance related issues.
o Participates in safety, health and environmental programs.
o Knows and understands city, county, state, and federal regulations relating to process operations and works in a manner to ensure that these regulations are met at all times.
o Works in a safe manner at all times.
Other.
o Participates in programs and procedures required to ensure plant cleanliness.
o Monitors use and inventories of process chemicals and supplies.
 
Education and Pertinent/Proven Experience. The minimum requirements for education and experience are listed below. Consideration will be given to individuals with an equivalent combination of education and experience.
 
High school diploma.
Post-secondary education and /or a technical trade certificate is an asset.
Candidates with experience in the operation of a dry-mill ethanol plant will be given preference.
Previous experience in ethanol, chemical, oil refining or other similar processes necessary.
 
Computer Skills:
Must have the ability to learn and work effectively with the plant’s Distributed Control System (DCS).

Operator In Training


Summary: Responsible for efficient cleaning and organizing of plant, acting as a resource for all departments that may need assistance, while supporting the policies, goals, and objectives of the company. The goal of the Operator in Training is to prepare individuals for a career as plant operator.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
 
Plant Sanitation
Spraying down floors
Rolling up hoses
Spill clean up
Assist maintenance department in maintenance as necessary
Assist maintenance department and operations department in sweeping and cleaning of grain bins
All cleaning that the operations manager needs completed
 
Office Sanitation
Sweeping and mopping floors
Wiping down surfaces
Cleaning kitchen equipment in break area
All cleaning that the operations manager needs completed
 
Equipment
Operate fork lift for moving chemical totes
Operate skid steer for cleaning purposes
Front loader for cleaning purposes
 
Education and Pertinent/Proven Experience. The minimum requirements for education and experience are listed below. Consideration will be given to individuals with an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience with Front End Loader, Track Mobile, Skid Steer (Heavy Equipment)
Experience in Farming a plus.
Mechanical ability a plus.
 
Physical Requirements:

The employee must be able to climb ladders and work at elevations of 175 feet.
